Foster Psychedelics

PSYCHEDELIC: Ancient Greek words psychē (“soul”) and dēloun (“to make visible, to reveal”) – translating to “soul-revealing”
The staff at Foster Medical would like to announce our new practice arm, Foster Psychedelics. As you may have read in the popular press lately, there is a renaissance occurring in the field of psychedelics (LSD, MDMA, Magic Mushrooms, Ibogaine, Ayahuasca), with numerous clinical trials across the US and Europe demonstrating that these substances are beneficial in the treatment of depression, anxiety, addiction, chronic pain and PTSD. These substances are currently federally illegal, being classified as Schedule 1 drugs, but the legal situation is changing rapidly, as these clinical trials are proving the efficacy of these substances and subsequently changing the minds of lawmakers. Oregon has already approved legislation that makes the use of MDMA legal in the setting of a licensed clinical therapist, and numerous other cities have decriminalized the possession and use of psychedelics over the past 2-3 years, including Oakland, Santa Cruz, Denver and Ann Arbor.

We at Foster Psychedelics plan to utilize these powerful substances as soon as the legal landscape turns, but in the interim, we are happy to announce that we are using Ketamine to treat the aforementioned conditions. Ketamine has been used for over 50 years as an an FDA approved drug in surgery, and is not only one of the safest drugs in the world but is also listed on the World Health Organization’s list of 100 Essential Medicines. It has been proven in many clinical studies to quell depressive symptoms and has shown to negate suicidal thinking in as little as one treatment. It is dosed at much lower levels than those used for anesthesia and seems to “reboot” the human brain, allowing for better communication between brain cells and to spur new neuronal growth (neurogenesis) as well as allowing the recipient to view situations in novel ways and to learn new adaptive behaviors (neuroplasticity). We have seen amazing results in our clinic since starting the treatments in late spring. Treatments are conducted in a private, quiet room while reclining in a leather chair with eyeshades over your eyes and gentle, healing music playing in your ears, Each treatment lasts about 45 minutes and most conditions require approximately 6 treatments.

If you or someone you are close to needs assistance with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, or PTSD, and you have tried other pharmacologic treatment (or want to avoid those meds, to begin with), please call the office to schedule a consult with our Chief Psychedelic Officer, Scott Gagel.

Take care, and we look forward to seeing you soon at Foster Medical/Foster Psychedelics.
